An exciting opportunity has arisen to deliver a £9m garage investment programme in Stevenage. One of the Council’s top priorities is to revitalise our neighbourhoods and improve the quality of life and well-being of the people who live here. These vital roles will help drive this change through investment and refurbishment of 676 garage blocks across the borough, impacting 6668 garages.

The work forms part of a new ten year business plan that commences this year. The programme will rationalise assets and improve the condition and quality of the public realm. It will aim to maximise the Council’s third largest income stream to support the Council’s important financial security programme, an essential part of the new Future Town, Future Council programme.

This is an exciting time for Stevenage and you will be at the forefront of delivering the change the borough desperately needs.  We don’t expect you to do this alone; we are committed to resourcing a Garage team to help. You will join an existing highly motivated team of six, plus two new Building Surveyors and a new Asbestos Surveyor.

We have ambitious plans to complete the work within the first five years of the 10-year plan, and we can’t wait to get started. All we need is you.

This post will provide professional building surveyor services to deliver the garage investment programme that will include design, preparing specifications, budget estimates, contract administration, project procurement and management of the project through to completion.

To be successful in this role you have detailed knowledge of building construction and highly developed skills in the preparation of schedule of works and specifications.

As well as a competitive salary the Council offers an attractive pension scheme, generous training and development opportunities, flexible working patterns, free workplace parking and child care vouchers.
