Overview

Dodington Park Estate is on the boundary between South Gloucestershire and the county of Avon balanced on the Cotswold Escarpment. At the centre of the estate is Dodington House an 18th Century Georgian mansion which is currently being used as a private home.

When you come to work at Dodington Park, you’ll be joining a team of dedicated staff who work towards the renovation and maintenance of the house and surrounding estate, and where we always strive to achieve the highest possible standards of work and craftsmanship.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join the Senior Management Team on a prestigious private Estate.  The organisation is at a great time of progress and transformation, and you will be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment, with exposure to a wide range of conservation/construction projects. 

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the Estate’s future development by providing high quality, accurate and efficient project management support to the team.

We are looking for someone to take ownership; this is a new position (as we have previously used external project management support) so the confidence and experience to ‘carve out’ the role, develop project management strategy, challenge existing processes and offer solutions, is essential. You will be flexible and creative in your approach to working, have a ‘can-do’ attitude, and will embrace new opportunities and challenges with relish.

Role Specific Responsibilities

Responsibility: Taking overall responsibility for successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of projects.

Project Initiation: Working with managers and the Senior Management Team (SMT) to scope projects and develop business cases; evaluating the benefit, cost and risk of alternative options, and providing rationale for the preferred solution.

Mapping projects: Charting phases, setting timelines and milestones, and adapting plans to fit changing requirements/challenges.

Resource planning: Working with trade managers to ascertain resource requirements (materials, tools, and equipment), what is already available and what is needed, and arranging for its availability (potentially via Head of Property/Site Manager).  Working with trade managers to understand the human resource requirements and collaborating with HR to establish an internal and/or external fulfilment plan.

People Management: Responsible for allocating tasks to relevant managers via the Head of Property/contractors. Working with the Head of Property to understand human resource availability, and establish a timeline of project/work requirements.

Risk Management: Working with the SMT to establish project framework and controls.

Reporting: monitoring/reporting on progress at agreed intervals, managing post-project lessons learnt.

Budget Management: Working with the Head of Finance to establish a financial plan and on-going financial monitoring of the project. Continually forecasting, adapting to changes and managing the scope to allow for unplanned costs/resource requirements, feeding back to the managers/teams/SMT (where necessary).

CDM: Oversight of CDM process throughout projects.

Direct Report: Holding line management responsibility for a Project Administrator.

Other: Any other ad hoc duties, in line with your capabilities.

Role Model: Act as a Health and Safety role model, ensuring you comply with all relevant Estate Health and Safety and Environment (HSE) practices and procedures, as outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.

Supervision: Ensure that all persons under your supervision comply with relevant Estate Health and Safety and Environment (HSE) practices and procedures, and that the relevant health and safety documentation in place.

Best-Practice: Promote best working practices, and ensure that safe working systems are followed by all members of staff – reminding others of their H&S responsibilities, and reporting incidents/near misses directly when necessary. 

Person specification

  • Hold a Project Management qualification (e.g. Prince2).
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Significant experience in a similar Project Management role within a construction environment.
  • Exceptional IT skills; full Microsoft Suite (including Project) and Project Management Software.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with proven experience of assembling business cases and advisory/influential documentation.
  • Confident verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and persuade whilst focusing on maintaining positive relationships.
  • Experience of working with listed buildings.
  • Confidence and credibility to be the single-point of Project Management expertise.
  • Willing to take responsibility and ownership for tasks.
  • Practical and pro-active – a real driving force to get things done.
  • Flexible approach to work, with the ability to adapt to challenges.
  • Professional manner, with the ability to interact with individuals from a range of backgrounds.
  • Strong sense of discretion, appreciating the confidentiality of the work.
  • Keen to suggest improvements to current ways of working.
  • Ability to work autonomously when required, whilst still possessing strong team work skills.
  • Willing to ‘muck in’.
