Technical Officer, National House Building Council, Milton Keynes

£32,000 to £35,000 per annum | South East | Date posted 16 Oct 2017

NHBC has a unique opportunity available for a Technical Officer to join the team based in Milton Keynes. We are offering a salary of £32,000 to £35,500 per annum dependent on experience.

Working in the busy House-Building Standards department, you will provide technical support to colleagues within NHBC and the house-building industry, as well as assisting with the development of NHBC’s Standards and technical policy.

About the Technical Officer role:

You will be responsible for investigating and reporting on technical issues related to house building technologies, methods and materials.

This will include preparing technical guidance and articles for publication in Technical Extra, NHBC’s technical newsletter.  You will also contribute to the development of the NHBC Standards through drafting appropriate text and producing technical details.

You will represent NHBC in discussion with external organisations and provide comment on their guidance documents.  Through these discussions you will aim to raise house-building standards and protecting home owners.

You will have contact with NHBC colleagues, homeowners, house builders, product manufacturers and other construction professionals.

You will be required to provide accurate responses to technical enquiries from a range of internal and external customers.

Our ideal Technical Officer:

  • You will have a good knowledge of house-building methods and all related technical issues.  A relevant qualification coupled with knowledge of construction will form part of your portfolio.
  • The ability to communicate clearly at all levels both orally and in writing coupled with excellent organisational skills is a must. ‘Self-motivated with the passion to learn more every day’ will be words that could be used to describe you.
  • Hands on experience of house building/construction, perhaps from working on site or in a design office, would be advantageous. An interest in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) along with membership of an appropriate recognised institution (CIOB/RICS) or be working towards one would again be highly desirable, although not essential.
